What SEOs Can Do With Python

Home/Automation / What SEOs Can Do With Python

If you’re following me on LinkedIn, you’ve probably seen me post over and over about Python. I think we’re at a time where AI is changing the way we do work, and soon enough, having the skills to automate and do data analysis will be a requirement on your resume, not just a “nice to have”.

AI is giving marketers superpowers. Things that previously were complicated can be done in minutes. This means that the bar for being a good marketer is getting higher and higher. It also means that the better you are able to leverage AI in your work, the more competitive you will be as a candidate and your recommendations as an SEO as well.

The New SEO Skill Set

The SEO skill set is no longer limited to technical SEO, on-page and link building. SEO has evolved over time and become more sophisticated. The New SEO skill set in 2025 will include:

  • User Experience
  • CRO
  • A/B Testing
  • Using LLMs (and understanding when and when not to use them)
  • Data Analysis
  • Automation
  • And more….

This is where Python comes in handy! With Python, you can tackle three birds with one stone: LLMs, Data Analysis, and Automation! Yes, Python can help you do all of this!

You’ll hear a lot of people saying you don’t have to learn to code to be a good SEO. While that’s true for basic SEO, Python unlocks advanced capabilities, allowing you to do what non-coders simply can’t — just like adding strength training elevates your fitness beyond simple cardio.

If you’re looking just to cover the basic skills, then Python probably won’t be for you. But if you’re looking to pick up something that will give you SEO superpowers, Python is your new best friend, in my opinion.

Why I Think You Should Learn Python – The Benefits

Oh boy, I don’t think people fully understand the benefits of learning to code in general. Here are some of the things you’ll learn:

  • Structured Thinking: I cannot say this enough, but coding in general, will teach you how to think in a well structured way. Debugging will help you become more detail oriented and improve your analytical skills.
  • Speed and Efficiency: Python will speed things up for you. You can create your monthly performance report literally in one click! You build the code once, and you can keep using it forever. So, the time you spend building things is an investment.
  • Freedom in Analysis: Analyze everything and anything literally! Yes, the tools we have at hand at the moment help us do that, but they also limit us to what is possible and can be done. You can pull the title tags from SERPs and analyze them in ANY WAY YOU WANT, for example, what are the most frequent words/terms appearing in titles in the results for a given keyword?

Is It Hard To Learn Python

Learning something new is always complicated; it’s like learning a new language. Sometimes, you’ll get it; other times, you might feel discouraged. But here’s the thing: if you don’t try, you’ll never know if it’s for you. Chances are, yes, you can. And it will be so worth it.

Also, remember this: you’re not trying to be a developer. You’re trying to learn how to get things done for you with Python. It’s never been easier to write code! AI-assisted learning and coding makes the whole process a breeze!

You just need a mentor or to read some guides online to get started. Everything you learn is hard to start with. Do you know how to use Excel formulas? Were you born knowing how to use a vlookup? Definitely not!

Approach coding with the same mindset. Read, try, fail, try again, learn.

What Can You Do With Python

I don’t know where to start and where to finish, but you can do anything you want for Data Analysis, using LLMs, and Automation. Here are some Python projects I’ve done that have helped me the most:

  • SERPs Scraper. Yes, you can scrape SERPs using many existing tools, but you can scrape it in bulk and analyse it with Python.
  • Page Content Scraper. Yes, you can do that with many existing tools as well, but this way, you can analyse the content YOUR WAY. Whatever that is, you’re not going to be limited to what a tool tells you any more about what needs to be optimised and what does not. Third-party tools are telling the same thing to your competitors, by the way!
  • Plotting charts. This works perfectly if your dataset is huge as well!
  • Analysing your Google Search Console data, for example, to find queries with high impressions but low clicks.
  • Clustering keywords semantically.

Things others have done with Python:

  • Forecast Trends and Predict Outcomes
  • Automated Log File Analysis
  • Bulk Content Analysis
  • Rank Tracking
  • Internal Link Analysis
  • XML Sitemap Generation
  • Validating schema markup
  • Backlink Analysis and analysing anchor text.
  • Leverage APIs for Data Extraction like GSC API, SEMRush or Ahrefs API, Google Cloud NLP API and more!

While going through this list, you may be thinking, “Oh, Validating schema markup, I can do this with existing tools already” … ok, but can you pull all the schemas for URLs ranking in SERPs and analyse them with one click, for example? Or analyse them against the featured snippets and rankings for a list of keywords? You need Python for that!

I really think with Python, the sky’s the limit! By learning and utilising it, you will become a better SEO by doing things faster and in your way.
